Ice Hockey: Ohio vs. Ohio State video highlights

Saturday night’s action at Bird Arena mirrored that of the night before.
Ohio battled early; but in the end, cruised to victory.
After holding only a 2-1 lead through 20 minutes, the ‘Cats scored six times in the second to aid a second straight thumping of Ohio State, 11-1.
The scoring commenced less than a minute into the contest when Zach Tisdale lit the lamp for the Bobcats (11-3-0).
Following a 13-minute span of scoreless hockey, freshman Tyler Murphy put the Buckeyes (5-4-0) on the board during a 2-on-1 fast break.
However, Ohio State could only celebrate that success for 44 seconds.
Zach Tisdale found the back of the net again at the 5:49 mark giving Ohio its first and final lead of the night, 2-1.
The second period hit the Buckeyes like a brick wall.
Michael Schultz was the first to beat Ohio State goalie Allen Schneider only 52 seconds into the period.
Just a minute later, it became the Tom Whetsel show.
The freshman scored three consecutive goals for the ‘Cats in a six minute outbreak for his first career hat trick. With the effort, Whetsel doubled his total goals scored on the season from three to six.
Later in the second, Jeremy Browning added the only power play goal of the night for Ohio and Tyler Pilmore added one to push the lead to 8-1.
Ohio scored 11 second period goals between the two contests, a shocking total that ultimately proved to be the decisive statistic in the series.
The Bobcats again dominated the final period. Tyler Pilmore, Zach Tisdale and Jonathan Pietramala added goals to push the score to its final tally.
Overall, Ohio outshot the Buckeyes 57-14 and had both Tisdale and Whetsel record hat tricks.
Defensively, the Bobcats were outstanding as freshman netminder Brendan Madden stopped 13 of the 14 snipes he faced and helped prevent Ohio State from scoring on all seven of its power plays.
The win completed a two-game sweep of the Buckeyes, who were outscored 21-3 throughout the weekend. It also marks yet another season that the Bobcats dominate the Battle of Ohio in the ACHA.
The ‘Cats will now put their five-game winning streak to the test in a road battle with the Indiana Hoosiers next weekend. Play is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night.
