Site Purchased For Proposed Dollar General Store

Although a spokeswoman says Dollar General is still in the “due diligence” phase in deciding whether to open a new store in Glouster, a company associated with Dollar General has paid more than $1 million for a site in the village.
Records in the Athens County Auditor’s Office show that Patton Development OH LLC purchased a former beer distributorship property on High Street for $1.065 million. The property was bought from AFP Distributors Inc. of Athens.
Patton Development of Woodruff, South Carolina, has ties to Dollar General.
In Vinton County, it was Patton Development that purchased the former McArthur SuperValu last fall that was developed into a Dollar General store that opened last month, according to reporting in the Vinton County Courier, a sister newspaper of The Messenger.
Patton Development also has been involved in development of Dollar General stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia.
On Wednesday, The Messenger contacted a spokeswoman for Dollar General and asked if the company had made a final decision to open a new store in Glouster, the timetable for opening it and the company’s relationship to Patton Development.
“My notes show we are still in due diligence,” spokeswoman Crystal W. Ghassemi said in a two-sentence email. “Feel free to check back.”
In June, application was made for a state building permit for a Dollar General store on the AFP Distributors property, according to the Ohio Department of Commerce website.
Dollar General already has a store in Glouster, also on High Street.
