< < Back to two-arrested-in-athens-co-drug-investigationAn investigation that lasted more than a year led to the arrests of two people in Athens.
Jeffrey L. McKenzie, 53, of Athens, was arrested by deputies with the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, along with Jerrell E. Harrison, 38, of Columbus.
The two men were arrested at a Hope Drive residence, where a set of digital scales, heroin, crack cocaine and about $1,900 were seized, according to a press release by the sheriff’s office.
“Harrison attempted to flee the area while the residence was being secured, however, (he) was found a short time later hiding in a nearby wood line,” the release stated.
Investigators also alleged Harrison attempted to hide evidence while he fled.
A Nelsonville Police Department officer sprained his ankle after chasing Harrison over a creek. Both he and Harrison were treated for minor injuries, according to Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith.
Both men were transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. Harrison is charged with multiple counts of possession and trafficking in crack cocaine and heroin. He was also charged with tampering with evidence and possession of criminal tools.
McKenzie was charged with complicity to illegal drug trafficking and possession of crack cocaine.
