Ohio University Celebrates Opening Of Dublin Campus

The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine officially opened the doors of its newest campus.
The Ohio University Marching 110 joined students, faculty, and dignataries for the official opening on Saturday.
The Dublin campus' inaugural class of 50 students have been attending classes at the new facility since July 7.
"We are changing the way we educate students as we operate from two locations" said Ken Johnson, dean of the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
According to Ohio University's Compass, all but two students are from Ohio. The HCOM was founded in 1975 mainly to train primary care physicians to meet the state's health care needs. The facility is the first regional campus since its founding.
"We are training students from the area who will stay in the area to service the medical needs of communites in central Ohio" said William Burke, the dean of the Dublin campus. Students at the Dublin branch will be able complete all four years of medical school in central Ohio.
The $24.7 million project includes three buildings which sit on 14.8 acres of land purchased from the city of Dublin in 2012. In addition, Dublin gifted Ohio University 46 acres for future development.
A second OUHCOM location in Cleveland, in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic is expected to open in July 2015.
