Yellow Jackets Look to Maintain Perfect Season
< < Back to yellow-jackets-look-maintain-perfect-seasonAfter a perfect 10-0 regular season, the Williamstown Yellow Jackets are back in the Class A West Virginia state playoff bracket. The Yellow Jackets claimed the number two seed in the sixteen-team bracket and will be hosting the fifteen-seeded Madonna Blue Dons in the first round of the playoffs Friday night.
The Blue Dons finished with a respectable 6-4 regular season record, but dropped their final game of the season to Clay-Battelle by a score of 33-6. The Yellow Jackets on the other hand finished the regular season with a win over Parkersburg South, defeating the Crusaders 35-6.
The bigger victory for Williamstown though was leaping over the Wahama White Falcons in the rankings and capturing a potential semi-final home game. The Yellow Jackets were ranked third going into the final week of the season, while the White Falcons were ranked second. Both teams won their matchups, but as a result of secondary playoff points, the Yellow Jackets leap frogged the White Falcons and claimed the two-seed.
The Williamstown, Madonna game will be a rematch of the 2008 Class A state championship, which the Yellow Jackets won 23-7.
