Climate Bill of Rights to be the Focus of Lecture, Discussion and Documentary
< < Back to climate-bill-of-rights-to-be-the-focus-of-lecture-discussion-and-documentaryA “Climate Double Feature” will be held Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at 5 p.m. in the Computer Services Center 121B on the Ohio University campus.
Merrily Mazza, a city council member from Lafayette Colorado, will talk about how she successfully passed Colorado’s first Climate Bill of Rights in her community. It secures the right to healthy climate and bans fracking and fracking-related infrastructure as a violation of that right, according to Mazza.
She has led the charge in her state for local citizens to have control over their local environment.
Her lecture is titled “Why we Need a Climate Bill of Rights.” A discussion will follow.
Her stop in Athens is part of a five-city Ohio tours sponsored by the Ohio Community Rights Network.
Her lecture in Athens will be followed at 7 p.m. by the showing of a documentary – “We The People 2.0.” It is the story of the community rights movement in the United States and globally.
Local sponsors of the event are Democracy Over Corporations, the Ohio University Linguistics Department and the Institute for Applied and Professional Ethics at Ohio University.
The event is free and no tickets are required.
