Boating, Fishing Opportunities Improved At Strouds Run
< < Back to ?p=19920Visitors to the beach and public boat ramp area at Strouds Run State Park are now enjoying a host of shoreline access improvements including a new 30-foot courtesy dock, five new stub docks and a new seawall.
The seawall and docks provide expanded temporary docking for boaters using the lake, picnic and beach areas.
In addition to the enhanced boating access to the lake, anglers are taking advantage of the additional 200 feet of shoreline between the seawall and beach area that has been cleared to improve fishing access.
In the past, due to the heavily forested lake perimeter, fishing access was limited. Today, fishing access from the bank is just a short walk away from the beach and visitor parking lots. The newly cleared areas have been especially popular with families and young anglers.
Usage of the new docks and shoreline access has already increased visitation by more than 15 percent, according to the Strouds Run boat rental concessionaire. Additionally, local staff have observed an increase in shoreline fishing especially near the beach and parking lot.
The new shoreline improvements were supported by a $58,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife’s boater-angler fund, which is funded through the motor boat fuel tax.
The Division of Wildlife collaborates with Ohio State Parks annually to provide funding for boating access, improvements and maintenance on lakes where gasoline-powered watercraft is permissible.
