ACLU To Represent Union-Scioto High School Student
< < Back toThe American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio will take up the case for a 15-year-old gay Union-Scioto High School student who was attacked by a classmate in October.
In a news release, the ACLU says it will represent the student's family and will consider "a wide range of legal actions" to prevent future bullying attacks.
A video of the attack surfaced on the internet, sparking a campaign on Change.org asking the school to create an anti-bullying policy including sexual orientation and gender identity.
According to the release, representatives from the ACLU have notified the school, "inviting them to discuss solutions before formal legal action is filed."
Union-Scioto Superintendent Dwight Garrett had earlier told WOUB News the school was looking into changing the policy and expected a change by the end of the year.
