< < Back to womens-golf-bobcats-conclude-fall-schedule-3rd-place-finish-rocket-classicThe Ohio Women’s Golf team finished off the fall portion of their 2014-2015 season with a third-place finish at the Rocket Classic Tuesday in Port Clinton, Ohio.
In a tournament loaded with MAC competition, the Bobcats finished behind MAC rivals Toledo and Western Michigan at the Catawba Island Golf Course. The ‘Cats showing was much-improved from their 12th place finish last weekend at the Bearcat Classic.
“We came in knowing this was our last tournament of the fall season,” sophomore Hailey Hrynewich said. “We wanted to go out there, play our best and finish the season strong.”
Hrynewich led the Bobcats as she finished seventh overall and shot a two-day, 54-hole total of 231 (+15). Hrynewich shot a team-best 75 (+3) Tuesday for her third top-ten finish of her career.
Junior Angela Codian and Freshman Lily Pendy rounded up the top ten with eighth and 10th place finishes respectively. Codian shot an 81 (+9) on Tuesday to secure her spot, and Pendy started the tournament on fire, shooting her way into the record books with a two-round total 147 (+3), the 12th-best individual 36 hole score in Bobcats History.
“The team played very well considering the conditions,” Hrynewich said. “The rain and very wet conditions on Monday and strong wind today made it difficult. Although some of us wanted to finish a little better, we all had at least one round that we contributed to the team score overall, and I think that’s important.”
Junior Lauren McKinzie finished the tournament tied for 20th with a three-round total 237 (+21). McKinzie was consistent for the Bobcats overall, as she shot a 78 (+6) in the second and third rounds.
Senior Julia Lechner rounded out the Bobcats as she finished tied for 36th. Lechner struggled in the first two rounds, shooting a 166 (+22), but got back on the right track Tuesday, shooting an 80 (+8).
Though the fall season is finished, Hrynewich knows that there is more work to be done.
“We need to work on the mental aspect of our game,” Hrynewich said. “Golf is 99.99 percent mental and keeping calm when things go wrong and learning to come back from bad holes and finish the round strong.”
The Bobcats will have time to recover and work on their game, as the team will start back up in in early spring to kick of the second half of their season.
