Uptown for the Holidays Competition Planned for 2018 at SEO History Center
< < Back to uptown-holidays-competition-planned-2018There will be no Uptown for the Holidays Gingerbread House Competition and Display in 2017. The Southeast Ohio History Center will oversee the annual event in 2018.
The competition was originated and overseen by Jan Hodson from 2013 to 2016. She is turning the competition over to the SOHC to improve the display and seek overall sponsorship.
The Southeast Ohio History Center plans to expand the competition in 2018 to include entries from surrounding counties in southeast Ohio. A highlight of the competition has been the entry of gingerbread replicas of historical buildings and landmarks in Athens County.
“We look forward to overseeing this competition. We will take this year to plan and promote it throughout southeast Ohio. We will return in 2018 with a bigger and better competition and display, “ said Jessica Cyders, curator at SOHC.
Hodson mentioned in an interview with WOUB that the competition will most likely take on a larger scope under the eye of the Southeast Ohio History Center, focusing on the creation of gingerbread replicas of various historical sites throughout the region that the museum serves.
Volunteers willing to help on next year’s competition is encouraged to contact Cyders at Jessica@athenshistory.org
