Uniforms Stolen From Athens EMS Station
< < Back to uniforms-stolen-athens-ems-stationA burglary at the Athens station of Athens County Emergency Medical Services has the agency's chief cautioning the public to be on the lookout for anyone impersonating an EMS employee.
Chief Rick Callebs said several duffel bags belonging to EMS employees were stolen and contained uniforms and EMS photo ID cards.
"We caution the public to be on the lookout for anyone impersonating an Athens County EMS employee or anyone attempting to sell navy blue public safety uniforms," Callebs said.
Callebs noted that Athens County EMS employees normally respond to EMS calls in marked ambulances and all employees carry the county's photo ID.
"Report any suspicious person or activity to law enforcement immediately," Callebs advised.
The EMS station, located at 564 W. Union St., was burglarized Sunday between 12:30 a.m .and 3 a.m. while ambulance crews were stationed on Court Street at the Halloween block party. Entry was made by throwing a gas grill propane cylinder through a rear window.
Callebs said lockers and medical equipment cabinets were ransacked and it appears that the perpetrators attempted to steal a television set but were unsuccessful. A metal box containing wrenches, socket sets, screwdrivers, and other hand tools was stolen from the garage area of the station.
Lt. John Withers of the Athens Police Department is heading the investigation. Anyone with information about the case can contact Withers at 592-3315 or by email at jwithers@ci.athens.oh.us.
