Ohio swimming and diving took to the blocks for the team’s second meet in less than 24 hours on Saturday afternoon but struggled in the freestyle events and fell to Eastern Michigan 195-103.

Aside from the 1000 freestyle, the highest the Bobcats placed in a freestyle event was third in both the 200 and 500. The Eagles claimed the top three places in both of the sprint freestyle events. Overall, Eastern Michigan outscored Ohio 70-25 in the freestyle events.

Once again Ohio started the meet off winning the first two events. The 200 medley relay team of Addy Ferguson, Tori Bagan, Laura Dawson, and Haley Clark posted a time of 1:44.78, bettering their time from the previous night by just over a second.

Sophomore Bianca Hauzer continued to control the 1000 freestyle event winning with a time of 10:28.58. This time she was seven seconds ahead of second place.

Soon after in events four and five, Ferguson (100 backstroke, 56.78) and Bagan (100 breaststroke, 1:03.62) picked up some momentum for the Bobcats.

That momentum was dropped in the next four events. Through the 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 1 meter diving, and 100 freestyle, Ohio scored just 11 points, the least possible without anyone being disqualified.

The lone diver for the Bobcats, freshman Karrisa Conner, placed fourth in 3 mtr. and second in 1 mtr. with scores of 204.9 and 219.29 respectively.

Laura Dawson once again won two individual events. She blew the competition out of the water in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.83. That time has her just .2 seconds off the all-time top ten performances for Ohio University in that event. Her second win came in the final individual event, the 200 IM touching for a time of 2:08.68.

Addy Ferguson picked up her second win of the afternoon in the 100 fly. Her winning time of 57.54 was just ahead of two Eagles who finished in second and third with times of 57.66 and 57.79.

Despite these successes, the deficit given up in the freestyle events proved to be too much to overcome for the Bobcats, leading the 195-103 final score.
