The artwork of Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project (ZAAP) members will be on display during a reception at the Ohio University Zanesville Campus Library on Newark Road.

The free reception and art demonstrations will take place on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Three artists who are active members of ZAAP will demonstrate their art processes during the event. Jane Evans will be felting wool, AnneMarie Kovach will demonstrate wire wrapping and sculpting, and Jenn Jenkins will spin wool to make yarn.

Evans has been spinning and felting with wool for many years. She raises her own wool on Valhalla Acres Fiber Farm in Muskingum County near Hopewell. Her sculptures and felted paintings are made with wool that she dyes. She keeps a flock of sheep consisting a variety of breeds that make great wool with which to work.

Evans exhibits her works at ZAAP and at her own studio/gallery in the lower level of the ZAAP Gallery. She also holds classes in felting and sells the supplies for felting and spinning.

The inspiration for AnneMarie Kovach’s creativity comes from the beauty of her environment and her connection to nature. She will demonstrate basic wire-wrapping, wire-sculpting and beading techniques used to create her “Tree of Life” creations.

Jennifer Jenkins, an art teacher at John Glenn High School, specializes in fiber art. She will demonstrate spinning, a process where yarn is made from wool.

Jenkins’ process starts on the farm, where she raises her own sheep to produce the wool that she spins. Her interest in creating something from the “very beginning” mirrors her studio name, Orijenn Fibers.

Due to support from the Muskingum County Community Foundation, ZAAP memberships are free for young adults and artists (18–35 yrs) through 2014. For more information about ZAAP contact Director John Taylor-Lehman at info@zaapart.org.
