Ohio Hockey: Bobcats Defeat Lindenwood 3-1 To Complete Weekend Sweep

With a 3-1 victory on Saturday over Lindenwood, the Ohio Bobcats hockey team completed the weekend sweep over the Lions.
The Bobcats (14-2-1) played arguably the toughest weekend of their schedule to date hosting No. 4 Lindenwood (8-6-2) at Bird Arena.
After the Lions jumped out to an early lead early in the first period, Ohio answered back capitalizing on a Lindenwood turnover. Joe Breslin picked up the puck in the offensive zone, and passed it over to Nathan De La Torre who picked up the equalizer for Ohio.
“What I like most about this team right now is the resiliency,” head coach Sean Hogan said commenting on the game-tying goal. “They scored first and we bounced right back.”
The second period was dominated by goalkeeping at both ends of the ice. Aaron Alkema had another strong showing, picking up 20 saves on the evening.
“He’s a big, athletic goalie and we had very few defensive let-downs,” Hogan said.
Hogan claimed his defense, as well as depth at goalie is the reason Ohio hasn’t given up more than two goals in a game this year.
“They put us in a position to win every night,” Hogan said.
The third period started out similar to the second. Both teams were matching each other shot for shot. Ohio and Lindenwood both had 21 shots on the night.
Just over halfway through the third period on an Ohio power play, Mike Kretz ripped a slap shot from the point. Joe Breslin was sitting in front of Lindenwood goalie Cody Karpinski and was able to deflect the shot into the back of the net.
“We had a lot of chances so eventually we were going to get the goal,” Hogan said. “We just hope they don’t get the goal before [us].”
Hogan was proud of his team’s effort at both ends of the ice.
“We were playing pretty well we just preached our habits” Hogan said.
Ohio will host the Mercyhurst Lakers Nov. 21 and 22 at Bird Arena. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m.
