Meigs on Point in Point Pleasant

Coming off their huge win against Vinton County, the Meigs Marauders (9-8, 5-4 TVC-Ohio) looked to keep that momentum going as they traveled to Point Place, West Virginia to take on the Black Knights (2-12).
The Marauders would certainly maintained their rhythm, getting the 82-44 win over Point Pleasant. Anyone could look at that final and assume Meigs played well. But to anyone who saw the game, this was one of the Marauders’ most complete games of the year.
Once again for the maroon and gold, Tuesday night’s game starts with the defense. Throughout the night, the Marauders full court press forced the Black Knights to earn every possession that made it past half court.
For Point Pleasant, there were a lot of possessions that failed to reach half court due to forced turnovers from their opponent. Meigs forced 18 turnovers while only allowing 44 points.
Carrying the offensive load for the Marauders were Coulter Cleland and Weston Baer. At the end of the night, the duo combined for 40 points.
The key to their consistent scoring effort however, was their passing. This has been Meigs’ best passing performance of the season, carving up the opposing defense from the perimeter and the inside.
For the Black Knights, an expected appearance from Point Pleasant’s dynamic duo of Braxton Yates and Hunter Bush combined for 28 points. The problem for the squad, however, was that these two were the only consistent source of offense against such a dominating defense.
After the win, I asked coach Hill about the momentum his team has right now and what it means for the rest of the season.
“A win is a win. It’s great to win, but the fact of the matter is we’ve got another one coming this Saturday,” Hill said. “It’s gonna be a tough one against Division I Chillicothe… a very nice ball club. I think they have 3 athletes already signed to play at the next level.”
Next week’s matchup against Chillicothe seems to be on everyone’s mind as Meigs earned the easy win.But, Hill knows that there’s still a lot of work for his squad facing a talented opponent in Chillicothe this Saturday, Feb. 2.
