Ohio Baseball: Bobcats Drop 2 of 3 to Wofford to Open Season

Baseball season is back and the Ohio Bobcats (1-2) were in Spartanburg, South Carolina this weekend for a three-game series with the Wofford Terriers (2-1).
The Bobcats dropped its season opener 2-0 on Friday and split the doubleheader on Saturday with Ohio winning 6-2 in the first game and then losing 5-2 in the second game.
On Friday, Wofford scored twice in the first inning.
Starter Kenny Ogg tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs, striking out four batters with six hits. Sophomore Eddie Kutt threw three innings of relief.
Ohio had multiple chances to get on the scoreboard but never put a complete offensive inning together.
The Bobcats outhit Wofford 8-7.
Trevor Lukkes led the way for Ohio going 2-for-4.
On Saturday, the Bobcats got their offense clicking early. Led by Ryan Sargent, going 2-for-5 with two RBI’s and two runs scored, Sargent’s double in the third inning plated two runs.
Freshman Lefty Joe Rock earned his first collegiate win after coming in the fourth inning and tossing 2.2 innings.
Wofford scored two runs in the first inning just like Friday, but this time, The Bobcats answered and tied the game up in the second inning.
The Bobcats blew the game open with three runs in the third.
Junior Jack Longo went 3-of-5 with one RBI.
In game two, Ohio jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Rott doubled to left center that scored Aaron Levy and Sebastian Fabik.
Wofford responded with two runs in the home half of the first inning. Wofford continued scoring runs in the third, fourth and sixth inning, going up 5-2.
Freshman Braxton Kelly tossed two innings to close the game for the Bobcats.
Starter Eamon Horwedel suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched.
Up next for seventh-year head coach Rob Smith and his Bobcats is a west coast trip to Riverside, California to face Cal Baptist in a four-game series.
The series begins Friday, February 22 at 9 p.m.
The Bobcats will play two on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. then wrap up the series on Sunday at 4 p.m.
