W. Va. Officials Warn Of Social Security Scam

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey on Thursday said there’s a “seemingly relentless effort” by con artists to steal personally identifiable information by posing as members of the federal government.
He says dozens of people in West Virginia are reporting such scams every week. Impostors will say that a person’s Social Security number is compromised and then ask them to verify their account number, sometimes under the threat of legal action.
He says people should verify information by calling the actual Social Security Administration since most government agencies won’t try to get your personal information through an unsolicited phone call.
