OU Professors With Connections To Virginia Tech Wait For Word
< < Back to ou-professors-connections-virginia-tech-wait-wordOhio University Professor and Educational Studies Chair David Moore is watching the news today with a different set of eyes.
Moore did his undergraduate and graduate work at Virginia Tech from 1991-1996.
"It's a tragedy for the community," says Moore.
Today's shooting and campus lockdown in Blacksburg reminds Moore and many others of the 2007 massacre on the Virginia Tech campus where more than 30 people were killed.
"Any sort of shooting is horrific, but at that location, it's even more so," says Moore. "I mean, it just opens up another scab from years ago."
Moore says he still has friends at the campus and is watching the news to make sure they are all okay.
"I do hope everyone is okay," says Moore.
He says Blacksburg is a lot like Athens. It's a place where you don't think things like this will happen.
"It's a very peaceful community. It's a very safe community despite this kind of event. It's very much like Athens in many ways, where its surprising any sort of crime would happen, much less a shooting, much less, ya know, multiple shootings," says Moore.
Moore says in 2007, Ohio University and many other universities were very supportive of Virginia Tech, which he really appreciated.
He says he expects the same support this time around.
