THORNVILLE, Ohio- Big plays under the bright lights was the theme of Friday’s MVL matchup between the Sheridan Generals vs. the Crooksville Ceramics. With a share of the MVL championship in their grasp, the Generals needed no extra motivation to win this game, and they did so in convincing fashion, winning 60-10.

The Generals couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game. It only took two plays for Sheridan to open up the scoring. Jason Munyan got the call and didn’t waste the opportunity. Munyan got to the outside and made two Crooksville defenders miss, before cutting inside and seeing all green. A 64-yard run got the Generals on the scoreboard in style.

On the next Generals drive Sheridan came up big again with their first play of the drive turning into a touchdown. Corey Amspaugh dropped back and threw a bomb to Luken Hill for a 77-yard touchdown catch to extend the lead quickly to 14-0 in the beginning of the first quarter.

It was still all Sheridan on both sides of the ball as the defense forced a four-and-out. The Generals had the ball again and Shay Taylor exploded out of a wildcat offense. Taylor drove the ball down the field and punched the ball in emphatically on a three-yard run.

Going into the second quarter, Crooksville still couldn’t get anything going offensively. Meanwhile, Corey Amspaugh was back at quarterback and he drove down the field, rolling left and finding Tyler Talbot wide open in the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown pass.

Crooksville finally got some momentum when they got great field position from the kickoff. Caden Miller drove them down the field 20 yards until the Generals defense finally stopped them, but Zach Mclean, the kicker, drained a 48-yard bomb between the posts to put the Ceramics on the scoreboard.

The Generals had something to say about that, because right away off the kickoff Logan Ranft took the ball 97 yards to score and shift the momentum back to the General’s side. The Generals got the ball back and this time it was Jordan Barnett turning the edge and seeing only green with an 85-yard run down the right side to earn the Sheridan six more points.

Still Sheridan wouldn’t let up. The Generals drove down the field again and emphatically punched it in, and it was Jason Munyan with a 17-yard run to extend the lead to 54-3 nearing the half. But Crooksville might’ve been down, but they were certainly not out! Brayden Carr turned the right corner and saw daylight for a massive 49-yard run to close the gap between the Ceramics and Generals. The score was 54-10 heading into half.

The Generals really slowed down in the second half only scoring 6 more points, but the Sheridan defense was still dominant holding Crooksville the entire second half without scoring a point.

Sheridan dominated the gridiron today against Crooksville. With lots of big plays from both teams it was a great game with a lot of action for the spectators to see. Sheridan is looking like a lock to at least get a share of the MVL championship facing off against at Morgan next week.
