$40Always wanted to learn how to sew? Come learn at Athens Makerspace in this friendly 3-hour class!
This class is suitable for those who have never sewn anything, but when you leave, you will have the skills to take on more advanced projects [stay tuned for Intermediate Sewing to be scheduled very soon!]
Students can expect the following as curricula:
Introduction to common Sewing Materials and Tools
Introduction to Hand Sewing: threading the needle (knots), Basic hand sewing stitches (baste, backstitch, running, whipstitch, slipstitch, blanket stitch), sewing a button/snap/hook and eye/bar
Introduction to Machine Sewing: threading machine, basic stitches (straight, zig zag, back stitch) stitching in a line, curve, angle
After these topics are covered, students will make their very own Needle Book to take home [pictured above], upcycled from scrap fabrics and buttons.
Students are encouraged to share any personal sewing interests and goals with the instructor to focus their class experience. I.e., a greater emphasis can be put on learning techniques in which the student is most interested and likely to use.
