Week In Review: Nelsonville-York Boys and Girls Teams Have Disparate Stretches
< < Back to ?p=247099The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes Boys’ and Girls’ teams had drastically different weeks heading into the holidays. The Lady Buckeyes notched three victories on the week while the Boys team dropped both of their games.
For the girls, they started the week with a big victory over TVC-foe River Valley and the Lady Raiders on Monday 57-45. Nelsonville-York got out to a double digit lead early in the game, and kept that advantage on their way to their fourth victory on the season.
The Lady Buckeyes were again led by star sophomore Mackenzie Hurd on the night, as she finished with a game-high 17 points. Her sister, senior Haley, wasn’t far behind with 13 points. Fellow senior Joscelyn Heller joined her with 13.
The Nelsonville-York ladies capitalized on the momentum as they captured two more wins on the week. First, they took out their rival, the Athens Lady Bulldogs, on Thursday 53-40. On Friday, the Lady Buckeyes ventured outside the TVC for a game against the North Adams Lady Green Devils. Nelsonville-York squeaked out a victory this time, winning 38-36 in overtime to finish the week undefeated.
On the other hand, the boys struggled in their two games on the week. On Tuesday, they dropped a game against the Vinton County Vikings 56-49. They tried to bounce back on Friday at home against the Wellston Rockets, but they fell 59-40. The Buckeyes two game skid puts them at 2-5 on the season.
The mens team’s first chance to get one back in the win column will come on Saturday, when they play the Trimble Tomcats in Glouster. For the ladies, they play the Dawson-Bryant Lady Hornets in Cole Grove on Monday, before heading to Trimble on Saturday as well to play the Lady Tomcats.
