The Alexander Spartans had a light week to kick off the new year.

Their first game of 2020 did not go in their favor. On Jan. 3, the Spartans took a loss against Chillicothe Cavaliers 41-55. Last year the Alexander and Chillicothe match up resulted in a tough loss as well with a score of 54-66. With this year the boys team lost by two extra points.

This will be the second loss in a row for the Spartans making their record 7-2. Alexander will look to make sure this does not continue to be a losing streak for the team. Next week the Alexander Spartans will play Vinton County Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m.. Back-to-back games after that will be Jan. 10 and 11 against Nelsonville-York and Eastern.

As for the Lady Spartans, took on the Dawson Bryant Hornets on Jan. 4, defeating them with a score of 65-55. Skipping a battle last season, Dawson was a tight win two seasons ago, but Alexandar pulled out the victory with a score of 41-40. There score this year was nine points more showing a bigger separation.

The Lady Spartans will continue their seasons Jan. 6 vs Athens. Following a game on Jan. 9 against River Valley.
