WATERFORD, Ohio – There’s no better close to a half than with a made basket; and when that made basket comes from half court to tie the game, that’s an exclamation point.

Waterford’s Nick Fouss did just that. His miraculous shot knotted the game at 22 and gave Waterford all of the momentum going into halftime.

Trimble didn’t panic. They went into the locker room and made the necessary adjustments and escaped with the 47-35 victory over the Wildcats in a very physical game.

It was a rough start for both teams to start the night. Lots of turnovers and sloppy play in the opening frame. The Tomcat defense was in full effect to start, and shut-out the Wildcats 8-0 in the first quarter.

The second quarter was all Waterford. They outscored the Tomcats 22-14 and completely flipped the script of the game.

Needless to say, the halftime adjustments worked out well in favor of the Tomcats as they outscore the Wildcats 25-13 in the second half. Trimble’s notorious defense forced 11 Waterford turnovers and lots of tough shots for the Wildcat players. Trimble held all five Waterford starters to single digits in the scoring department and gave up no bench points to the Wildcats.

Turnovers were also a factor in the Tomcats’ play tonight. They tallied 13 total turnovers as they forced passes and shot attempts, but at the end of the day, they got the ultimate result they were looking for.

Offensively, the Tomcats’ familiar faces led the way. Blake Guffey led all players with 19 points and Brayden Weber totaled 12 points. Cam Kittle worked the glass Tuesday night, grabbing 10 total rebounds.

Tuesday night’s game was a tough one for both sides. Trimble head coach Howie Caldwell commented that he would have liked to see less turnovers from his team, but he did acknowledge that it was still a win.

The Tomcats will look to build upon this win and fine tune their game before Friday when they hit-the-road to play the Eastern Eagles in Reedsville before finishing off the road week when they face off against rival, Nelsonville-York to close out the week.
