Free Lunch Options for K-12 Kids in Athens During Pandemic

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — As the coronavirus emergency continues, workers are laid off and food supplies have an irregular flow, some businesses in Athens are chipping in to help parents feed their kids.
All Athens City K-12 schools are shutdown to prevent coronavirus spread. While the School District is preparing their meals deliveries starting Monday, March 23, some restaurants and businesses are closing the food insecurity gap for kids.
Ohio Univerdity Inn is offering free peanut butter and jelly sandwiches “no questions asked” to any kid under twelve. At 331 Richland Ave. from Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. until the Athens District Schools deliveries begin on Monday. They also serve free cold deli sandwiches to kids with peanut allergies.
Wings Over in Athens offers one free meal to every K-12 child per day from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 33 N. Court Street
Avalanche Pizza in Athens will be sharing 200 free lunches with local children at at Federal Hocking Middle/High School located at 8461 State rte 144 in Stewart, Ohio on Friday, March 20th at 11:30am. The menu includes roast beef sandwiches, vegan chicken and sausage patty sandwich, apples, PB&J sandwiches, and cookies.
In Nelsonville, the Tri-County Career Center will be distributing free 200 breakfast bags with PB&J, pop-tarts, fruit and cerealat the Nelsonville Public Library at 95 W. Washington St., Nelsonsville, starting at 9:30am on Monday March 16th. Available to any students in grades K-12. Additional locations to be announced.
The Beacon School for students with developmental disabilities in Athens began Monday March 16th their breakfast and lunch deliveries for more than 60 of their students since the school was shutdown in prevention of the coronavirus. Deliveries are ongoing.
Again, Athens City Schools District (ACSD) prepares to begin their breakfast and lunch deliveries on Monday March 23rd.
