This week’s Gridiron Glory game of the week saw the Tri-Valley Scotties face off against the Sheridan Generals in a rivalry matchup that had MVL title implications on the line. The two teams both had one loss heading into this matchup and were faced with a rainy night at Paul Culver Stadium.

The first half saw little action between the two sides as the rain prevented both offenses from creating substantial scoring drives.

The wet field conditions made it difficult for both teams to gain traction while running the ball. This would change midway in the second quarter, where Tri-Valley QB Drew Burkhart broke free on a twenty three yard run to put the Scotties in Sheridan territory for the first time all night.

Three plays later, Burkhart would drop back and launch a 30 yard pass to Luke Hill to put the Tri-Valley in the Red Zone. Burkhart would cap off the scoring drive with a 2 yard run in the endzone to give the Scotties a 7-0 lead entering the half.

The second half saw more action as the rain subdued. On Tri-Valley’s first drive out of the locker room, Burkhart would throw a deep ball right into the hands of Sheridan DB Andrew Holden for the interception.

However, the following Sheridan drive was well contained by the Scotties, as star RB Jason Munyan was swallowed up by the Tri-Valley defensive line. The Generals would be forced to punt.

Tri-Valley’s next drive saw the Scotties take full control of the match. Burkhart continued his good form all season, connecting with open receivers in midfield and gaining extra running yardage on first down. This would be enough to lead Tri-Valley in the red zone, where Burkhart would connect with Jalen-Goin-Chandler in the endzone to make it 14-0 Scotties.

Tri-Valley would use this scoring drive as momentum needed to win the game with a score of 21-6.

Drew Burkhart would end the night leading both teams in rushing with 114 yards and passing with 165 yards in the air. The Scotties defense also was key to the victory tonight containing Jason Munyan to just 69 rushing yards.

This win has big implications for teams; for the Scotties, the victory means a chance at winning the MVL title next week at home against John Glenn. Both teams sit undefeated in conference play, making next week the sole deciding factor in the MVL title race.

As for Sheridan, this loss knocks them out of MVL title contention with two conference losses against Tri-Valley and John Glenn. The Generals will look to bounce back and end their season on a win next week at New Lexington.
