Union Scioto Working Towards Changing Anti-Bullying Policy
< < Back to union-scioto-working-towards-changing-anti-bullying-policyThe superintendent of Union Scioto Local Schools says that although no changes have been made to their anti-bullying policy, they are working with Equal Ohio to make necessary changes.
Dwight Garrett told WOUB News he had anticipated changes by the end of 2011, but so far none have been finalized.
The need to make changes came after a video surfaced of an openly gay 15-year-old student being attacked.
In the days following the attack, more than 75,000 people responded by joining a campaign on change.org asking for change in the policy.
The current total is more than 90,000.
The student who attacked the gay student was given a three-day suspension, but received additional punishment after a video of the attack surfaced.
The changes to the anti-bullying policy would include sexual orientation and gender identity.
