Athens, OHIO (WOUB) — Levi Gullion is the 2021 Gridiron Glory Player of the Year as voted on by the fans. The Piketon quarterback had a historical individual season as he lead the Redstreaks to an undefeated regular season, which allowed them to host their first ever home playoff game.

Comparing Gullion’s stats to a video game arguably would not do a justice to just how good he was in the Scioto Valley League this year. In 11 games, Gullion threw for 3,075 yards and 31 touchdowns to go along with 1,023 yards on the ground with 21 more rushing touchdowns.

Gullion was obviously the centerpiece in Piketon’s high-powered offense, but he had fantastic targets all over the place to fuel the fire. Wide Receivers Johnny Burton and Camren Loar each went for over 1,200 yards as the Redstreaks pretty much scored at will against every opponent they faced this season.

In individual awards such as Gridiron Glory Player of the Year, you can often point to an individual moment that separates a winner from the rest of the finalists. Gullion had multiple of these moments.

Early in the season, Gullion led the Redstreaks in a valiant comeback against Zane Trace where he practically single-handedly took over the game in the second half after trailing for much of the game. This set the tone for how Piketon would find a way to just win throughout the season.

Against Paint Valley, he showed off what he could truly do on the ground. He rushed for six total touchdowns on the night to go along with one more through the air. Four of them came in the second quarter alone as Piketon trounced Paint Valley in the mid-season conference matchup.

After coming out on top against elite competition against several other fantastic players from all around southeast Ohio, Gullion was extremely humble as he credited his coaching staff, his teammates, and his community to help him get to this point.

“It’s a great feeling,” Gullion said after he won the award live in-studio for the Gridiron Glory finale. “I haven’t really won this type of award before. It’s an honor.”

Gullion will go down as Piketon’s first ever Gridiron Glory Player of the Year. He will go down in Piketon School history as not only an amazing football player, but as a high-character individual off the field, too.
