Athens comeback against McClain falls short despite impressive rebounding performance

The Bulldogs came out with a lot of energy in the first quarter, starting with a 7-0 run behind the 3-point shooting of Bailey Davis and Kasandra Federspiel.
As the game progressed into the second quarter, the Tigers were able to squeeze their way back into the game, making the score 26-23 at halftime.
Athens was able to keep this lead at the half behind the impressive efforts of Hailey Mills. She had 4 points and 8 rebounds at the half.
As both teams entered into the second half, the teams exchanged buckets back and forth allowing neither team to hold a lead.
With 42.3 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Tigers call a timeout to try and run out the clock.
With 23 seconds left in the game the Bulldogs were able to get a steal with the ball in their possession; however, they were not able to tie the game because of missed layups, allowing the Tigers to get the ball back.
The Bulldogs fell 51-46 in a close game against the Tigers.
The Bulldogs leading scorer was Asa Holcombe with 12 points and their leading rebounder was Hailey Mills who had 11 rebounds along with 8 points.
Even though the Bulldogs were not able to win the game they showed an impressive effort for rebounding as a team. The Bulldogs were able to collect 30 rebounds, with 20 of those rebounds coming from the offensive end.
The Bulldogs look for their next win against Nelsonville-York on Thursday night.
