Trimble secures homecoming night victory over Alexander
< < Back toGLOUSTER, Ohio (WOUB) — It was homecoming for Trimble high school and homecoming for Blake Guffey in the Tomcat face-off against the Alexander Spartans. The Trimble boys were on the ball from the get. Guffey had the first two layups and set the tone for the game.
Kyler D’Augustino was the Spartan to shut down during this competition and the Tomcats, led defensively by Tucker Dixon, did that exactly. In the first half, they held him to only six points.
Those six points made D’ Augustino the top scorer for Alexander, compared to the top scorer for Trimble, which was Guffey with 19 points. The halftime score predicted an early victory, the score being 39-26, Tomcats.
However, the Spartans absolutely put forth an effort to stop their opponent. Brayden McKee for Alexander had a dunk and amazing defensive effort. While that effort was there, it was enough for the press that stood in their way.
Trimble pressed against their defenders practically the whole game. This style of play allowed the control of the game to be at their fingertips.
The final score was 77-59, Tomcats. Four of Trimble’s starters accounted for all their points and at the top of the pack was Guffey. He had 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. He was also 100 percent from the line.
The Tomcats play next on February 6th against Southern and the Titans take on Vinton County on February 8th.
