The SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards recognizes the best collegiate journalism. SPJ’s Region 4 is comprised of Michigan, Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Senior Will Price of Columbus is a news and information major in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and was a finalist in the radio sports reporting category. Junior André Norrils, also a news and information major, was a finalist in the television feature reporting category. Awards entries are judged by professionals with at least three years of journalism experience.

“I’m thrilled for the students whose work is being recognized by SPJ,” said WOUB

Editor-in-Chief Atish Baidya. “It is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the experiential learning opportunities here at WOUB.”

Price’s story was called “Hunter Rogan wins Scholarship.” It was about an Ohio University Women’s Basketball player who earned a spot on the team as a walk on and as a senior was awarded a scholarship.

Norrils’ story was called “Bam and Bros. Barbershop.” It examined the opening of a multi-cultural barbershop on Court Street in Athens and the inspiration behind it.
