WAVERLY, Ohio (WOUB) – The 2022 Waverly Tigers have a brand new look entering the season. The sibling quarterback and wide receiver duo of Wade and Will Futhey graduated, leaving a gap for the Tigers to fill.

The two set the Southern Ohio Conference on fire in 2021 with 11 combined touchdowns, leading the Tigers to a 9-2 season.

“When you lose Will, Penn, and those guys like that… it might take 2 or 3 guys to fill those guys’ spots,” head coach Chris Crabtree said.

But now Waverly looks ahead.

“We’ve done a pretty good job developing guys,” Crabtree said. “So we have a good group of young kids that are coming in and we have been developing them. It will be their time.”

One of the guys Crabtree will lean on is his son Wyatt. The senior defensive end will be an anchor for the team as they look to push for a conference title.

“Just because they’re gone doesn’t mean we slow down,” Wyatt Crabtree said. “We just try to replace and keep going and keep winning games.”

The Tigers’ biggest matchup this season, October 7th. Waverly seeks to avenge their only regular season loss against their rivals: the Wheelersburg Pirates.
