ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — The Ohio Bobcats (4-2) field hockey team returned home to Athens, Ohio on Sunday looking to bounce back after a two-game losing streak.

The Bobcats were trying to snap the streak against Queens University of Charlotte (0-6).

Action in the first half of the game was all Bobcats. Ohio controlled the majority of possessions, not letting the Royals get down the field.

In total, the Bobcats shot twelve shots in the first half compared to the Royals 1, but none of those shots would lead to an Ohio goal.

However, in the second half the Bobcats did come around and score.

Both Sasha Dikotla and Mijntje Ligtenberg found the back of the nets for the Bobcats.

“Scoring is just a good feeling and the whole team gets excited,” Ligtenberg said. “Such a good feeling to score and be apart of it for the team.”

It was a dominant performance for Ohio’s defense. The two goals were all it took to get the job done, as the Bobcats defense stands tall in a 2-0 win.

“At the beginning, it got a little tricky, but then we figured out how they were outletting their balls,” head coach Ali Johnstone said. “Our press was really good, our plan was once you come up with it, as soon as you get it, you need to find that pass.”

The Bobcats avoided dropping below five-hundred with the win, improving to 4-2 on the young season. But as MAC action begins to pick up, the competition could test the team going forward.

“Well, were playing the MAC games now, so next goal is to make it to the MAC tournament and maybe win the championship, but let’s first make it to the MAC tournament and let’s see what happens,” Ligtenberg said.
