Portsmouth obtains playoff berth with win against Fairland
< < Back to ?p=287685Portsmouth, Ohio (WOUB) — After falling to Fairland last year , the Portsmouth Trojans beat the Fairland Dragons 34-0. This conference game was critical for the Trojans as they were looking to obtain their playoff berth for the 2022-2023 season.
Heading into the first quarter, it seemed that this game was going to be a slugfest, as neither team was able to score in the first, until Beau Hammond was able to get an interception and get the pick six to get the first score of the game..
Then as the second quarter got underway, Hammond would get back to back scores for the Trojans extending their lead 13-0. Easy scores for Portsmouth would be repeated over and over as they seemed to cruise past Fairland throughout the entire game.
The third quarter was where the Dragons would lose their spark to try and get back in this game. With 8:09 left, the Trojans, Tyler Duncan, would find himself in the endzone to further extend the lead for Portsmouth. But the Trojans wouldn’t stop there as they would end the quarter on the pitch play to get another score. At the end of the third quarter, it would be 27-0 Trojans lead.
To cap off the game, Jayden Duncan would receive a pass from Tyler Duncan in the endzone to get the Trojans their final score of the game. At the end of the second half, Portsmouth would win 34-0.
Fairland would remain scoreless for this game due to multiple interceptions. The Dragons would end up in the red zone multiple times during the game, but the Dragons defense would not let up.
The Fairland Dragons (5-3, 2-3 in conference) look to bounce back against the Dawson-Bryant Hornets next week.
The Portsmouth Trojans (5-3, 4-1 in conference) will look to get another conference win against the South Point Pointers next week.
