Here is a closer look at the 2022 finalists for the Gridiron Glory Player of the Year Award
< < Back to ?p=289344ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Twelve players made the initial watchlist for the annual Gridiron Glory Player of the Year award. The list has been cut to just five outstanding high school football players from our region.
Now, it’s the fans’ turn to make their voices heard.
Go to woub.org/gridiron to vote for the athlete you believe should be awarded Player of the Year. Fans have until Monday, November 14th at 6 p.m. EST to cast their ballot.

Ty Perkins | Ironton WR
Ty Perkins was on the All-GG team a season ago and this year has worked his way into the player of the year running after being key to the Ironton Tigers offense. On the season he has 1,093 yards as well as 12 touchdowns, including a one-handed catch. He plays a massive role in the explosive Fighting Tiger offense and continues to lead his team throughout the playoffs.
Chase Hall has had a breakout season leading his team to an electric 6-4 season while also picking up two playoff wins. He put up unreal numbers this season rushing 2,856 yards paired with 48 touchdowns, one of those which he threw. He has led Coal Grove’s ground and pound offense, while also getting things done on defense.
He picked up 153 tackles, 87 of which were solo. He also picked up four sacks, one interception and he had three fumble recoveries. He also blocked a P. A. T. and ran back a kickoff for a touchdown. He also was their punter and was averaging 42.7 yards per punt. He quite literally did it all for the Hornets this year, and in turn has worked his way to several Ohio High School Football records including the 6th most rushing touchdowns in a season and the 4th most points scored in a season.
Andrew Marshall | Bloom-Carroll LB
Andrew Marshall helped lead the Bulldogs to win their fifth consecutive Mid-State League title. He is the Division III Central District Defensive Player of the Year and has also been awarded the MSL Back of the Year. Marshall has done so by gathering 162 tackles, 97 of which are solo, and 31 tackles for loss. He broke his own record for tackles in a season which was previously set at 151. He also has eight pass break ups, five sacks and one interception. But Marshall isn’t just dominant on defense. He has 766 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball.
Leighton Loge | Nelsonville-York LB
Leighton Loge has led the Nelsonville York Buckeyes to their first regional semifinal since 2017.In the process he was named TVC-Ohio Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Loge leads the team in total tackles with 186, and tackles for loss with 27. Loge’s passive playstyle allows him to play a major role in every pass play. Loge tends to allow the play to develop which allows him to find openings in the offense and contain the ball carrier.
Loge also leads the team with 7 forced turnovers with one interception and six forced fumbles. Every play, Loge makes an impact. Not only is he a defensive star, he also plays a major role offensively with 480 receiving yards and six touchdowns. In the TVC-Ohio championship, Loge made two of the biggest plays to secure their second straight title. Heading into the halftime break, Loge caught the two-point conversion to tie the game. Late in the second half, Loge also blocked Vinton County’s point after attempt to secure the 21-20 victory.
After Jackson got off to a rocky 1-2 start, Jacob Winters stepped up and lead the Ironmen to an 8-2 record, an FAC title, and two playoff wins as the 2 seed so far in Division III Region 11. Putting together impressive wins against Western Brown, Wheelersburg, and Washington Court House, among others, Winters has proven he’s the leader of a talented Ironmen team.
Winters has been up stellar numbers through the air and on the ground, with 1,856 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, 434 rushing yards, and 3 rushing touchdowns, Winters has been able to do it all.
