ATHENS, OH – Childcare providers and early childhood educators across the region are gaining valuable insights and being reenergized by the WOUB Learning Lab’s 2023 Ohio Ready to Learn Workshops. This year the workshops are available either face-to-face or virtually. Each workshop in the series is approved for Step Up to Quality credit and is funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services to the Ohio Educational Television Stations (PBS Stations). All of Ohio’s PBS stations are providing this series.

“I have attended three of the workshops so far for my Step Up to Quality credit. Two were in person and one was virtually,” said Millersburg Head Start Teacher Joanne Miller. “I thought they were really good. They reminded me of a lot of things I already knew and got me excited about going back into the classroom with the kids. After 20 years as a teacher, you get a little stale. But this refreshes me, makes me a better educator and helps me to grow.”

“I have attended three of the four sessions and have the last one scheduled for March,” said Hocking County Home Family Provider Naomi Hamilton. “What I find most valuable is that the sessions are offered online. I can do my training without having to schedule a day off.”

Both educators say they have learned new things and gained great ideas from the sessions.

“The children’s books we received as part of the sessions are great,” said Miller. “I love when we can bring new books into the classroom for the children to enjoy and learn.”

“I love how these workshops are interactive,” said Hamilton. “The instructors ask for input, questions, or ideas. I really like that I can share my ideas and get feedback and hear the ideas of others.”
