WOUB Senior Spotlight: Madison Moore

Madison Moore will be a reporter at WRIC in Richmond, Virginia after graduating
Madison Moore, a journalism news and information student who works as an anchor and reporter in the WOUB Newsroom, is graduating from Ohio University this May and has already landed a job as an on-air reporter at WRIC in Richmond, Virginia. Moore grew up in Charleston, West Virginia and first came to Ohio University while she was in high school to participate in the annual High School Journalism Workshop.
“I really fell in love with the campus, and I loved the WOUB newsroom and studio,” said Moore. “I already knew that I wanted to go to a college that had hands-on training involved. So, I kind of knew Ohio University was where I wanted to go. Plus, it was close to home.”
At one point in high school, Moore had a different career goal. She was serious about becoming an actress and even moved to California to pursue her dream. Moore was cast in a pilot episode for a Nickelodeon series, but the show wasn’t picked up and the experience left her burnt out. However, Moore doesn’t regret anything that happened.
“I’m glad I went through all of that because I think it really helped me get to where I am today,” said Moore. “There’s a huge difference between acting and journalism, but there are some aspects of acting, like adlibbing and thinking on your feet, that really stuck with me as I was going into the journalism field.”
During her time at Ohio University, Moore participated in the WOUB Summer Internship Program and did an internship at NBC6 in South Florida. Being the only multimedia journalist intern at NBC6 gave Moore some great opportunities to learn and grow. She was assigned her own video equipment and went in the field with reporters multiple times a week to cover breaking news, crime, and human interest stories.
“It was such a fast-paced environment, and I just learned so much,” said Moore. “I went out on stories with a lot of photographers too, and they helped me with my on-camera presence.”
Moore’s experience at WOUB helped her get the internship at NBC6. There were 200 applicants for the position, and Moore was told she was selected because of the work she did at WOUB.
“I gained knowledge and confidence from WOUB, and it has prepared me for my full-time job,” said Moore. “I always think, ‘What if I didn’t have WOUB?’ I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Moore will be starting at WRIC after graduating in May. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, watching movies, and playing tennis.
