Charles Scott Burton, 48, of Belpre, has been charged with first-degree murder. Michelle D. Burton, 53, also of Belpre, was charged with complicity to commit murder, a first-degree felony. Both are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
The arrests came less than 24 hours after Tina M. Johnson, 60, was found dead at a home in Pomeroy with multiple stab wounds. Her body has been sent to a coroner’s office for an autopsy.
Meigs County Sheriff Scott Fitch said multiple search warrants were executed in Meigs and Washington counties and deputies conducted numerous interviews with witnesses and suspects.
“There is still a lot of work that still needs to be completed in this investigation,” he said. “But I am very pleased that we were able to make two arrests in (less than) 24 hours.”
