Eagles soar off powerful run game
< < Back to ?p=299811Waterford traveled to Eastern to take on the undefeated Eagles in a classic Tri-Valley Conference matchup. Both teams would attempt to apply a heavy dose of the run game to send the other packing, with the Eagles giving the ball to both Tyler Hill and Rylee Barrett all night.
Hill had most of the carries and rushing yards, with Barrett striking some of the bigger single runs over the course of the night. However, quarterback Ethan Edwards would be the one to punch it in, taking a swing run in to give the Eagles a 7-0 advantage at the end of one.
After that drive stalled, it was time for the Wildcats to get a shot on offense and they’d do nothing with it. Only gaining five yards on their first drive to end with a three-and-out. Their offensive struggles would start early and continue into the second quarter, not scoring until their fourth drive on what was an exceptional receiving touchdown. Their next two touchdowns would come quickly though, the Wildcats leading 20-14 at the half.
Both teams would struggle to put it together in the third though, neither scoring until late in the fourth, where the Eagles would capitalize on two missed Waterford extra points, scoring a go-ahead touchdown to push the score to 21-20. The Eagles would go on to survive and push their undefeated record to 5-0, meanwhile, the Wildcats would fall to 3-2 halfway through the season. All hope isn’t lost though, as this Wildcats team got a chance to push themselves even further above .500 next week against Frontier. The Eagles get to take their undefeated record to Tucker County, where they’ll put their undefeated record on the line once again against the Mountain Lions of Frontier.
