ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Ohio returned home to Chessa Field on Thursday for its first game of Mid-American Conference play. Its opponent was Kent State who came into Athens with only one loss over its last four games.

In the first half of the game, the Bobcats had trouble finding their grove towards defending Kent State’s attack. This would prove to be the momentum needed for the Golden Flashes as junior midfielder Alisa Arthur crossed the middle and score the first goal. On the attack, Arthur was dominant for Kent State as she had a total of seven shots with five shots on goal.

The Bobcats eventually found their way towards getting shots in the second half as they controlled posse nation for majority of the game. The defense was Ohio’s strong point for the game as its defenders were in a hurry to interrupt an attack made. Sophomore goalkeeper Celeste Sloma was busy saving four of the shots made by Kent State.

There were some attempts in the second half that almost made a difference in the game, but in the end the efforts were in vain. The Bobcats would fall short only losing from the goal in the first 1-0.

“We able to find our overloads and create moments in the final third,” head coach Aaron Rodgers said. “We just have to finish to create those chances and we have to finish those chances.”

The Bobcats are looking to redeem themselves as another tough opponent in the MAC awaits when they travel to New York on Sept. 24 to take on Buffalo.
