Ohio struggles in its 3-1 loss to Bowling Green
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – Ohio (10-11, 5-4 MAC) struggled in its 3-1 loss to split its weekend series with Bowling Green (8-11, 2-6 MAC).
“We just have a lot of room for improvement,” head coach Geoff Carlston said. “We’ve got to be able to put back-to-back efforts in.”
Ohio was without a key player in middle blocker Caitlin O’Farrell during the match and looked towards other players to fill in.
The Bobcats utilized a younger lineup and couldn’t get much going in the first set. They had key mistakes, and the Falcons took advantage, taking set one 25-18.
In the second set, Ohio continued to battle. Both teams went back and forth, with Ohio keeping things close but ultimately dropping the set 25-23.
The Bobcats were looking to find life heading into the third set. A 5-0 run in the middle allowed the Bobcats to gain some momentum as they battled from there on out. A block from outside hitter Kam Hunt and middle blocker Elizabeth Hoerlein at the end allowed them to wrap up the set with a 25-17 win.
Bowling Green went on a 6-0 run at the beginning of set four and proved to be too much for Ohio. Ohio had costly mistakes and couldn’t get in a groove as they dropped the set, 25-13.
Despite the loss, Hunt stepped up for the Bobcats and led the team with 11 kills.
“I think Kam (Hunt) did great,” Carlston said. “She’s a freshman, she stepped up and she was one of the people that we needed to step up and she did.”
Ohio returns to action when it travels for a series with Miami on Oct. 20.
