CARROLL, Oh (WOUB) – The first round of high school football playoffs are officially upon us in Southeast Ohio. It was a battle of the dogs in Carroll as the hosting Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs matched up against the Athens Bulldogs.

Athens won the toss and decided to try and set the tempo fast, as they elected to receive the ball first.

This would however come back to bite them, as Dylan Armentrout would intercept Braden Young’s pass, and Bloom-Carroll would take over on possession.

The same exact thing would then happen right back, with Athen’s Seth Hart punching the ball out and recovering it on their own 3 yard line.

Athen’s looked to try and get something going, but Bloom-Carroll had other ideas, blocking the punt attempt on fourth down and recovering it in the end zone for the safety.

On the next Bloom-Carroll possession, Armentrout did what he’s done all season long, dodge defenders left and right on his way to the end zone, 9-0 Bulldogs.

Athen’s was not going out without a fight. Young finds Leo Martin for the deep ball to set them up well into Bloom-Carroll territory. He then is able to find Seth Hart in the end zone for the score, making it 9-7.

Bloom-Carroll then would respond in their own fashion, as Jayse Rockwood returned his punt return all the way to the crib.

Going into the second quarter, it was more of the same from Bloom-Carroll. Brodyn Bishop got his name on the scoresheet, making it 23-7.

Jett Jones then picked off Young, and would lead to Dylan Armentrout finding the promise land once again.

Bloom Carroll would add a couple of more scores before the halftime break, going into the locker room with a 44-7 lead.

The Bulldogs would end up taking this contest by a final score of 58-14. Bloom-Carroll will take on the tough test of 4-seeded Jackson next week.
