Union Picket At Hocking College

Support staff at Hocking College are holding a picketing session today on the Nelsonville campus to protest and draw awareness to the fact that they have been working without a contract since last summer.
The union's contract expired June 30th and college officials and union representatives have been trying to negotiate a new contract since April.
Hocking Education Association Support Staff Professional's Unit President Kim Coy says this is important because the staff's livelihood depends on it.
"Our contract is going to determine the next three years; anything from rules to regulations. Right now, it's just really important," says Coy.
The union represents about 90 staff members including custodians and administrative assistants.
Hocking College Spokeswoman Laura Alloway says the union told the college of its intent to picket a little over a week ago.
"We were notified on January 20 that there would be an informational picket by the Hocking College Association on January 30 and February 12," says Alloway.
When asked about the negotiations, Alloway says she is unable to comment due to ongoing negotiations.
The picket is being held today until 7:00 p.m. and another one is schedule for February 12 located at the campus' student center.
