ATHENS, OH – WOUB Public Media will start a new series this spring called Foothill Features. The magazine-style variety program will contain an eclectic mix of feature narratives that showcase the sights, sounds and stories of our region. The one-hour program will be produced twice a year in the fall and spring. Each episode will feature five to seven stories from various locations across the region.
“The primary goal of Foothill Features is to highlight the stories of the region and encourage people to take greater ownership and curiosity of their community,” said WOUB Producer/Director Chris Flanery.
Flanery came up with the idea for Foothill Features after realizing there is so much happening in the region that isn’t well-known to people in our region and outside of it.
“I grew up in Dayton and knew a few things about southeast Ohio, like the Hocking Hills,” said Flanery. “But after taking this position at WOUB and moving to southeast Ohio, I realized there is so much that so many people don’t know, and I liked the idea of doing my part to change that.”
The first Foothill Features episode will contain stories on:
- The Ohio Art Corridor
- The Zanesville Y Bridge
- The history of the Moonville Tunnel
- The rechanneling of the Hocking River in Athens
- Friday Night Football Legacies
“A key component of Foothill Features is that it will not be formulaic,” said Flanery. “The magazine-style format allows for an exploration of different storytelling styles that best suit the individual story being told. Overall, Foothill Features seeks to be an approachable, unpretentious examination of the uniqueness of this region.”
The first episode of Foothill Features will be broadcast on WOUB TV in May 2024. Each story featured in the broadcast will also be individually shared on WOUB’s YouTube channel and other digital platforms.
