The Tigers were fired up in the first set. Mariettas’ Anna Ritter had powerful serves paired with multiple kills from Tori Dawson. These two made it hard for the Bulldogs to keep up. Marietta kept racking up points and the Bulldogs were stuck, unable to gain momentum. The Tigers won the first set 25 to 13.

Set two was not much different. The Tigers still came with their A game. In a long rally Tigers’ Ritter secured a powerful kill and the crowd went wild. Arianna Buckley delivered kill after kill for Marietta, helping the Tigers grow their lead. It was back-and-forth defensively, with a block from Athens’ Rylee Toadvine and then a follow up block from Mariettas’ Dawson. Ultimately the Tigers took the set 25 to 17, with who better to seal the deal than Dawson with a kill

In the third set the Bulldogs started fighting back. It was a close battle and Bulldogs’ Toadvine had many kills and gave the Tigers a run for their money. The Tigers did not budge though, with Ritter and Buckley delivering striking kills. In the end Marietta took the set 25 to 17 and the match on an ace from Taylor Karcher.

Athens will have a chance at redemption when they host Wellston on Thursday. Marietta hopes to keep their fire going when they host Fort Frye also on Thursday.
