Spartans Sweep the Golden Rockets

WELLSTON, Ohio (WOUB) – The Wellston Golden Rockets welcomed the Alexander Spartans Monday, losing by a score of 58-32.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as both teams were scoring at a high rate all quarter long. But a couple of threes from Wellston’s Emma Maynard would put the Golden Rockets up 14-11.
Despite a big start from the Golden Rockets, the second quarter was all Spartans. They came out hot going on a 26-point run while holding the Golden Rockets zero. The Spartans headed into half-time leading 37-14.
The second half started with more of the same. The Golden Rockets scored the first bucket of the third quarter, but Alexander took the rest of the half. Lily Ryder ended the half with a euro step layup at the buzzer 55-23
The fourth quarter had a running clock in favor of Alexander the Spartans who started out scoring immediately the fourth, although Wellston got the last points of the game Alexander came away with a final score of 58-32.
The Wellston Golden Rocket leading scorer was number 40 Emma Maynard with 16 points. The rest of the Golden Rockets squad had a total of 16 points combined.
The Alexander Spartans were led by Lily Ryder who had a team high of 25 points. Followed up by Kaylee Hudnall with 7 points 6 assists and 6 steals.
After this loss, The Wellston Golden Rockets will host to the River Valley Raiders on January 15 while this strong Alexander performance, will welcome the Vinton County Vikings on January 16.
