Logan Elm looks to continue last years success with new roster

NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – After winning their first non-COVID playoff game since 2009 last year, Logan Elm’s senior-heavy squad graduated 18 starters. But Braves Head Coach Terry Holbert is not worried.
“Part of the fun and adventure of coaching is working to get some guys to replace those guys,” said Holbert. “And that’s how you get those guys.”
Led by Aaaron Walters and Michael Bock, the Braves won eight games and scored more than 30 points per game in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history. A senior-heavy class led the Braves past Philo 41-21 in the first round of the playoffs. Logan Elm’s season came to an end after a 52-14 loss to New Lexington.
On offense, the Braves lost over 4,000 yards of offensive production. Walter’s top six targets from last year all graduated. As a result, Logan Elm will be relying on a cast of new players.
“No doubt there’s some big shoes to fill,” said senior wide receiver Tyler Bowlby. “We have some great receivers from last year that need to step up.”
Bowlby has the most receptions and yards of any returning receiver, but he had two catches for 60 yards last year. He and Connor Kent will lead the receiver corps.
The Braves will lean on their offensive line, the area with the most returning starters.
“We’re going to seek to establish the run offensively and get back to the foundations on defense,” said Holbert.
Sophomore Bryson Parish and Senior Aiden Hudson will help establish the run at running back. But, the Braves will focus their running game on their junior quarterback, Austin Holbrook.
“We’re going to be a very physical team, and we’re not going to go down without a fight,” said Holbrook.
The Braves are amped to face their traditional crosstown rival Circleville. The Braves have controlled the matchup in recent year, winning the last five matchups. The players hope to keep the streak going.
“That team in town, Circleville, that will be our game,” said Bowlby. “We’ve done it in previous years, this year is another one.”
“I’m always ready for that game,” said Holbrook. “Every day.”
Even with the roster reconstruction, they believe they can make it back to the postseason this year.
“As long as we play our brand of football, that is a goal of ours,” said Bowlby.
