After a regular season that yielded only two wins for the girls from Albany, the Alexander Lady Spartans' season came to an end at the hands of Lucasville Valley 64-34.

Early on in the contest, Coach Denton Guthrie had his girls ready to play. The Lady Spartans played stout defense led by sophomore Marilyn Rankin who had the tough job of guarding Lady Indian scoring machine Whitney Bear, who lead Valley to a victory over Alexander in last season's playoff with 33 points. This year, the Spartans hounded Bear defensively holding her to just 10 points in the game.

After the first quarter, the Spartans only trailed by eight, but after that, it was all Valley.

With Bear locked down, other players from Valley stepped up. McKenzie Corriel led the Lady Indians with 17 points, 13 of which came in the first half. Taylor Skaggs had 10 strong points in the paint and Courtney Crabtree added 7 points running the point.

The Lady Indians began to pull away at the end of the first half when Bear hit two big threes; one off of an in bound pass which was her first bucket of the game and a buzzer beater from just across the half court line to make her the all-time leading scorer in Lucasville Valley history.

The game continued to fall in Valley favor the remainder of the game. The Lady Indians controlled the game through the finish and move on to face Ironton in the next round of the playoffs.

A bright side for the Spartans was junior Kaylee Koker who had 22 points on the night. The young Spartans gained invaluable big game experience and can continue to build for the future.
