ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Ohio Volleyball (2-14, 0-4 MAC) hosted Buffalo (4-9, 1-3 MAC) on Saturday afternoon, hoping to get their first win in a month. However, the Bobcats would lose their 11th straight game in a five set nail-biter.

Ohio racked up 62 kills, nine service aces, four blocks, 56 assists and 62 digs in the losing effort. Buffalo would get 56 kills, four service aces, six blocks, 53 assists and 60 digs on their way to the win.

Gentry Brown would be the star of the Bobcats’ offense with a team-leading 17 kills, .436 kill percentage and 39 attacks. Mady Long would have the most digs with 14 and led with three service aces.

The first set would be back-and-forth until a stretch that saw the Bobcats score eight points while Buffalo only scored two to close out the game. The Bobcats would secure the win 25-19 with a Gentry Brown kill.

The second set would start off much the same until the Bulls scored four straight to make it 17-12. This pad would be vital to the Bulls as they would win 25-21 on a service error by Bailey Blair.

The Bobcats would start the third set off strong, holding a 7-3 lead at one point. However, the Bulls responded to make the game close at multiple points. Despite the challenge from Buffalo, the Bobcats would win 25-23 with a kill from Olivia Gardner.

In the fourth set Buffalo would go on separate four-point and five-point runs. This helped them win the set with the largest margin of victory of the day. They won 25-18, sealed by Tehya Shaw.

The fifth set would start off nicely for the Bobcats as they got off to a 6-3 lead. But the Bulls would fight back eventually taking an 11-9 lead. From there it was tight. There would be an extended review on a Maddy Long kill that ended up being in the Bobcats favour to bring them within one. However, Buffalo held on and took the set 15-13 with Emerson Matthews bringing home the win.

Interim head coach Kenzie Brinkman shared the message to the team in the locker room “you’ve got to do your job and if you’re not doing it every time you’re taking away [from the team].”

The Bobcats will play rival Miami at home on Friday Oct. 10 and Saturday Oct. 11. It will be available to watch on ESPN+.
