ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – It was a rainy day at home for the Ohio Field Hockey as they took on the Longwood Lancers. The all-time head-to-head in this matchup was 6-4, favoring the Bobcats. However, the Bobcats were unable to convert on shots when needed to losing 2-1 against the Lancers.
Longwood scored the first goal of the game and it came at the very end of the first quarter. The Lancers were able to go on the run down the field to the Bobcats’ side and draw a corner. The Lancers took advantage of this as Caitlin Carraway scored.
In the first half of play the Bobcats’ offense was aggressive, having just 15 shots on goal. One of those shots found the back of the net off the stick of Tiana Nhamoinesu. At the end of the first half, it was even 1-1.
In the second half both defenses stepped up as the third quarter saw no one score. However, in the beginning of the fourth quarter Lancers’ Madison Wiley slid the ball right past the keeper for the score. The Bobcats would be on the run for a goal, and they would have opportunities to take the game to overtime but ultimately came up short.
Head coach Ali Johnstone reflected on the conversion rate of the team.
“We’ve out possessed, out shot and out controlled,” she said. “Honestly it comes down to execution but our team is good but we have to grind it out.”
Up next on the schedule for the Bobcats will be their final home game of the season hosting Miami on Friday at 3 p.m.
