Athens Co. EMS Levy On March Ballot
< < Back to athens-co-ems-levy-march-ballotThe Athens County Emergency Medical Services is asking for a one mil replacement levy in the upcoming primary election.
Director of Athens County EMS Corey Lenigar says this additional money generated from this levy will help update equipment.
"It will allow us to start to replace trucks in our fleet that may be aging. We have some facilities that we need to update. It will also allow us to keep up with equipment trends in EMS; new EKG machines and other things that might come about. EMS is kind of an ever-changing type of profession," says Lenigar.
Lenigar says is the levy fails, the county will try again in November and hopefully show the community that its passage is necessary.
"Ultimately if it would be defeated, we would have to make some cuts to the EMS system. Currently our system functions well and we meet the needs of the county. If it would fail, we'd have to try to come up with some way to continue to meet those needs, but with less staffing," says Lenigar.
The levy will generate an additional $249,000 for the EMS.
